Volodymyr Lytvyn: The Amendments to the Constitution have not been forwarded to the Constitutional Court yet due to the Remarks of the People´s Deputies
Several People´s Deputies addressed V.Lytvyn with a request to supplement the Transitional Provisions of the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, adopted in the previous plenary week, with a paragraph on election of the deputies of local councils starting with the next period of authorities. V.Lytvyn declared that at the forthcoming elections, deputies shall be elected for four years.
According to the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the People´s Deputies suggest that the Transitional Provisions envisage that the acting Verkhovna Rada is elected for five years, since is was elected under the Law fixing a five-year term. V.Lytvyn also claimed that amendments to the Fundamental Law would not be put to the vote again: "It is not the matter of voting." "We are currently studying the Standing Orders in this respect. If the People´s Deputies make a request to specify the provision adopted, this request may be satisfied by consent and with prior arrangements of the Central Judicial Office of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The procedure shall not be violated, so consultations on this issue are in progress" V.Lytvyn stressed.
